From March to June I've been living in Vienna's 5th district, called Margareten. Being pretty central, Margareten lies next to Vienna River, which flows into Danube River a little further. Once
One of the most famous here is the so-called "Majolika House", built by Otto Wagner in 1898 [pic 1]. Its facade is covered with individually painted glazed tiles, showing a flower pattern. Just next to it is the "Linke Wienzeile 38" [pic 2], also built by Otto Wagner. Here you find golden plant ornaments and the "Ruferinnen" (calling women) on the roof. A little up the Vienna River you get to the "Ruediger-Hof" [pic 3], built in 1902. Inside there is a nice cafe with a shady guest garten. The building on [pic 4] is not far from the "Ruediger-Hof" and just opposite the underground station "Pilgramgasse"...
The "Vienna Secession Building" [pic 5] is only indirectly located at the Vienna River today. In 1897/98 it was built by Josef Maria Olbrich as an exhibition place for Vienna's alternative to Art Nouveau, the Secession. The river itself is hidden under the street (=

During WW2, Austria was a part of the German Reich. As one of the country's biggest cities, Vienna's inhabitants had to be protected against air raids. Between 1942 and 1945, six flak towers have been built and these massive concrete buildings still exist spread around the city...
This huge combat tower [pic 1] is located in Arenberg Park in Vienna's 3rd district - the first and biggest built here (it measures 47m x 47m at it's base and a hight of 42m). It has been planned in the so-called design II, which saved a lot of concrete comparing to design I, used in Berlin and Hamburg.
The lead tower of ne next pair of towers stands in Esterhazy Park in Vienna's 6th district. This is the only one publicly accessable today. The "Haus des Meeres" (house of the sea, an aquatic zoo) has it's home here - and the Austrian Alpenverein (alpine club) changed one of the walls to a climbing wall (visible on [pic 3], partly covered by the tree).
The last pair built here can be found in Augarten Park in Vienna's 2nd district. They stand tall above the trees with a hight of 55 meters. The hight depended on their location: the higher the ground level,
