Am Morgen meines letzten Tages in Italien hab ich die Wallfahrts- kirche Basilica di Sant' Antonio [Bild 1 und 2] besucht, die sich dem Leben und Wirken des Hl. Antonius widmet, der hier im fruehen 13. Jh. gelebt hat. Das Innere ist herrlich bemalt und wird von 8 grossen Kuppeln ueberspannt, was der Kirche ein 
byzantinisches Aussehen verleiht. Als eine der aeltesten Staedte Italiens (gegruendet vor ueber 3000 Jahren), hat auch Padua einige Zeugnisse roemischer Architektur. Hier ist der Rest des antiken Amphitheaters 
[Bild 3] zu sehen. Beherrschend in der Innenstadt ist der "Palazzo della Ragione" [Bild 4], eingerahmt von den Plaetzen "Piazza delle Erbe" und Piazza della Frutta", auf denen taeglich Gemuese- und Flohmaerkte stattfinden. Wie hier [Bild 5] zu sehen ist, wird Padua von vielen netten Kanaelen durchzogen - ein Relikt aus der bewegten Geschichte der Stadt...... und abends bin ich wieder mit dem Zug nach Venedig gefahren, von wo aus der Nachtzug nach Wien ging. Ich hatte hier noch ein paar Stunden Zeit fuer eine letzte Pizza (= und mit diesem [Bild 6] verabschiede ich mich aus Italien ^^
In
the morning of my last day in Italy, I visited the pilgrimage church Basilica di Sant'Antonio [pic 1 and 2], dedicated to the life and work of St. Anthony, who lived in the early 13th century. The interior shows magnificent paintings and is crowned by 8 large domes, giving the building a byzantine look. As one of the oldest cities in Italy (founded more than 3,000 years ago), Padua had a roman past as well. This [pic 3] shows the ruin of a roman amphitheatre. A dominant point of the inner city is the "Palazzo della Ragione" [pic 4], inclosed by the squares "Piazza delle Erbe" and "Piazza della Frutta", where they have daily markets on them. As you can see here [pic 5], Padua has a net of fine little canals - a relict of it's moved past...
... in the evening, I went to Venice again, from where I had to catch the night train, crossing the alps and back to Vienna. I had a couple of hours left, so enough time for a last Pizza (= and with this [pic 6] I'm leaving Italy ^^
